    History

    History

Valencia acquired the land at Paterna under President Francisco Ros Casares in 1974. Undoubtedly, this acquisition was the best legacy left by the president, who tried to apply his entrepreneurial vision to the club and modernise it.

It was a great success. Up until the introduction of the pitches at Paterna, Valencia players trained in unfavourable conditions for a team of the club’s standing class. The sessions were undertaken on land that did not have the regulatory dimensions, and occasionally they also trained at Mestalla. Sometimes, the Valencian players trained at the Benimar facilities.

Despite the hardships, Ros Casares and the board did face numerous oppositions to the project. The team were going through a bad sporting situation, and the fans was more preoccupied about that than the commitment to the future.

After long-running discussions, Members Association eventually gave the green light to the acquisition of land for a price of 70 million pesetas. Ros Casares could not even sign the deed because, when it came time to formalise the arrangement, he had left the presidency. The final price was 85 million pesetas, after the acquisition of related land.

Ros Casares and his team proved to have a great vision in this operation, since the condition that he had for the grounds was that they should be near the future bypass, and therefore chose Paterna.

The present Ciudad Deportiva, after remodeling work, was opened on February 19th, 1992. With the passage of time, the land has been used as a training ground for both the first team and football school.

The Ciudad Deportiva is spread over an area of 180,000m2. Besides a school and halls of residence for future footballers, it is also a modern rehabilitation centre equipped with various facilities for the recovery of injured players.

There are rooms for physiotherapists, hydromassage facilities, a sauna and a swimming pool. The spacious gym, with a wide variety of the most modern equipment, is an ideal complement for the proper physical preparation of the players.
