Parejo: "We need to use our anger as an impetus"

Valencia CF midfielder reacts to refereeing controversy and looks ahead to Levante match

"Against Levante we must play like we have been up to now, with the same intensity and desire"

Dani Parejo is back available for Valencia CF on Monday after missing the game against Athletic Club through suspension. Although he was suspended for the midweek match at San Mames, the midfielder saw the controversial events of that encounter and wants his side to channel their anger into a positive performance against Levante.

"The idea is to forget about what happened,” said the VCF captain. “On Monday we have another final to play. It's a match against Levante, in which we have to make the most of our pride and anger. We must use it as an impetus to take the three points."

"I think this league is the best in the world, and I understand that mistakes can be made, but two in ten minutes, with what we're playing for? The league have also decided that Cristiano (Ronaldo) can have his yellow card rescinded and Nico (Otamendi)’s red has been upheld, and that's it. I don’t think it looks good; I think it's not fair. But on Monday we play against Levante and we need to win,"he said.

"It is true that in the final matchdays there are things at stake for every team. In the end I think these games are finals for everyone. We all need the points and we all have pressure on us. Playing for the Champions League places is a big thing, and Valencia CF are obliged to achieve our goals," he added.

"Against Levante we must play like we have been up to now, with the same intensity and desire. We do not need to change anything because I think things are going well."

Finally, the Valencia captain spoke of contract renewal negotiations with the club, which are ongoing."I'm still happy here, both with my football and personally. I'm not worried at all. There is a long way to go before the end of my contract. I’m not worried about the state of the renewal and I’m focused on the remaining games and taking the team into the Champions League." he concluded.
