In his seven seasons as Valencia CF player he made 275 appearances. Despite not being a tall player he standed out for his superb aerial play, scoring memorable goals at the Santiago Bernabeu or decisive headers such as the one that led Valencia CF to the league title win at La Rosaleda.
Nicknamed ‘El Ratón’ (in English the mouse), he was always well-placed in the field, a key asset for a center back. Despite not being among the fastest players he had the ability to read the game and anticipate the opponent’s play. Another of his virtues was his charisma and leadership skills. He became the team’s captain and was one of those players who gave his all on the pitch and who defended fiercely Valencia CF colours. He spent a stunning 24.000 minutes on the pitch and was an integral part of the two league Double-winning sides, also winning one UEFA Cup and one European Cup Winners’ Cup. He made a vital contribution to the club’s most glorious period and took part in the widely-recognised as best Valencia CF team of all time.
