Fernando Giner

Born in Alboraya, 1964

Giner was nicknamed "Chufa" by commentators because of his origin

Current president of the Valencia CF Footballers Association and a native of Alboraya, Giner came up through the ranks at Valencia CF and played a total of 320 official matches for the club -311 as a starter-between 1982 and 1996. He was part of the famous Giner-Camarasa-Voro-Quique defensive line.

He debuted for Valencia CF at centre back under coach Miljan Miljanic in 1985, when the team were playing in the Segunda División. When VCF returned to the top flight in the 1986- 87 season, Fernando Giner’s presence in the squad increased and he became a regular first team player. His jokes and pranks off the pitch endeared him to his teammates and the fans.

In 1995 he signed for Sporting Gijón, where he spent two seasons. He continued his career at Hércules for a year and then a final two seasons at Levante, following which he retired.

Fernando Giner was also part of the Spanish national team in 1991, being called up a total of 11 times.

Other teams: Sporting de Gijón - Hércules CF - Levante
