Álvaro Negredo gave his impressions of the UEFA Europa League Last 16 draw, which pitted Valencia CF against Athletic Club, to Spanish TV channel beIN Sports. The striker commented that “This wasn’t a tie that we wanted; it would have been better to have played an all-Spanish game further along in the competition. Athletic are very difficult opposition.”
Negredo, será en estos momentos “muy igualada.">Based on current form, Negredo feels the two sides are evenly matched. “They have a very good dynamic and we have improved ours. It will be tough,” he said. “Now we have to play against them in the league. We are playing them at home this weekend and it would be good to start the run of three games against Athletic with a win. They compete very well and we will have to do a very good job.”
“Winning the Europa League would be a quick way to get European football next season, after the difficult beginning of the season we had. The reality is that we are far off the European spots at the moment, but our goal is to get there next season.”
VCF have won four straight games in all competitions, and Negredo puts this down to the fact that "the team never stopped believing. The fans have been behind us in these last few games to get us out of danger. Now we’ve reacted, and we’ve got an evenly matched fixture in the Europa League coming up.”
