Winger Epifanio Fernández 'Epi' who was one of Valencia's greatest ever players and lit up the Mestalla during the 1940s would have been 97 years old on Saturday, April 23rd.
Epi showed speed and magical skills in what was known as the ‘electric forward line’ alongside Mundo and played for Valencia CF for nearly a decade after joining in the 1940-41 season.
Valencia CF won a battle with Atletico Madrid, Español and Real Madrid to sign Epi and the San Sebastian born right midfielder made an immediate impact at the club by helping them to lift the ‘Copa del Generalísimo’ (current King's Cup). In a golden spell for Valencia CF they also won three La Liga titles and another King's Cup during the 1940s.
Epi finished his career at his home town club Real Sociedad and won a total of 15 international caps for Spain.
