Rodrigo gives Valencia CF a 1-1 draw away to Deportivo

October, 31 2016 -

Valencia CF striker Rodrigo Moreno struck a second half equaliser in a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Deportivo la Coruña.

Rodrigo converted a Nani cross after 56 minutes of an evenly matched game with Deportivo who went ahead in first half stoppage time through an Emre Çolak header.

Valencia set out to build on their strong display at home to FC Barcelona last weekend and coach Cesare Prandelli put out the same side except for Aymen Abdennour coming in at left back with José Luis Gayà injured.

They faced a Deportivo side looking to bounce back after two heavy defeats and the home side looked dangerous in attack with Çolak having an early shot across the area from a tight angle which missed everyone.

Dani Parejo had a dangerous shot from inside the area which was tipped over by Przemyslaw Tyton and Rodrigo slotted wide from close range although the flag went up from the linesman for offside.

The clearest chance so far fell to Deportivo with a cross from Juanfran picking out Çolak whose header went straight to Alves and he showed quick reactions to block. As Depor pushed forward Abdennour then slid in well to deflect wide an effort from Bruno Gama.

The game was played at a high tempo with the ball changing sides quickly in the centre of the pitch and gaps opening in the defences. Nani sent through a delightful defence splitting pass for Rodrigo but Tyton was able to take the ball off his feet as he attempted to go around him.

Valencia were finishing the first half well and a searching ball from midfield by Enzo Pérez found Moreno but his lob went over the bar. However, on the point of half time Çolak nodded home in front of goal from a Juanfran cross.

To try and change the direction of the game in the second half, Abdennour went off and Munir El Haddadi was introduced to give more of an attacking threat.

Only a couple of minutes later and Valencia were level with Rodrigo poking the ball in from a Nani cross, despite the attempts from Tyton to stop it on the line.

The game became tighter but there was no let up in the pace of the game.

Valencia had a let off when Çolak crossed and Borges headed across the goal while at the other end Nani shot narrowly past the post.

Late on Valencia had a lot of possession in the final third of the pitch but were unable to force clear cut openings.
