Valencia CF give fans a goal-fest against Osasuna on Mothers’ Day (4-1) May, 07 2017 - The goals from Garay (2), Zaza, and Rodrigo sealed a comfortable win Valencia gave fans the best possible present on Mothers’ Day with a 4-1 goal-fest against bottom side Osasuna, in a match which was dominated by the blanquinegros from beginning to end and put an end to the team’s run of three defeats in a row. Garay (2), Zaza and Rodrigo sealed one of the most comfortable wins of the season. One of the big pieces of news regarding the starting line-up was Jaume Doménech’s first start in the league this season, up to this point he had only featured in the Cup. Valencia CF started off well, looking to play attractive football, and in the 5th minute the referee decided not to give anything for a possible foul by Fuentes on Zaza in the box, despite protestations from the blanquinegro players and the home crowd. Minutes later Enzo Pérez had a good chance, but his shot was saved by Sirigu. The home team were dominating possession and the goal was coming. Sergio León had the best chance to break the deadlock for Osasuna, but his shot soared over the bar. It was Valencia CF who drew first blood, and it came from a Dani Parejo corner which was cleared by the opposition defence as far as the edge of the box, where Cancelo was waiting. The Portuguese player’s header fell at Nani’s feet, who crossed a low ball to the back post. Garay slid in to meet the cross and steer it into the back of the net, making it 1-0 with his third goal of the season. Voro’s side deserved the goal after the start they had made to the game. But the biggest ovation of the game so far was saved for Jaume Doménech, who made a spectacular save, clawing the ball away from goal after a Fausto Tienza header from a free kick. The ‘keeper from Almenara had needed every bit of his great agility to stop Osasuna from drawing level. From that moment until half-time VCF were in control against an Osasuna side who insisted on trying to find Sergio León with long balls. Nani had the chance to make it two, but his effort was blocked by a defender. It was Garay, who else, who made it 2-0, after a good pass from Zaza. The VCF no. 24 slotted the ball to the left of Sirigu, who could do little to stop it. Two goals from two chances for the Argentine. Valencia CF started the second half much as they had the first, well organised at the back and looking to score more. On the hour mark Gayà latched on to a ball from Zaza but his shot cannoned off the post. If it had gone in it would have been goal of the week, without doubt. And minutes later Jaume Doménech showed his quick reflexes again, saving an effort from Sergio León. Parejo, from nearly fifty metres tried to surprise Sirigu who was caught off his line, but the ‘keeper was quick to get back and stop the long-shot from the blanquinegro no.10. Just as quick was Rodrigo Moreno, who came on to immediately set up Zaza to make it 3-0. The Italian lost his marker and finished the ball that Rodrigo had laid on a plate for him, the Italian’s sixth goal in eighteen games as a blanquinegro. The home team’s festival of finishes continued after a cross from Montoya deflected off Vujadinovic and landed at Rodrigo’s feet, who made it four. The striker, after recovering from his injury, has returned well and on form. In the end it was a comfortable win against Osasuna, who got a consolation goal in injury time, the most comfortable game of the season for Valencia CF. Match Details: 4.
