Aridai on target for VCF Mestalla in 1-0 victory over Espanyol B August, 28 2016 - VCF Mestalla continue winning start to campaign Aridai hit the winner for Valencia Mestalla who came out on top 1-0 over Espanyol but it does not give the true story of a game where they were clearly in control and could have scored several more. Coach Curro Torres repeated the lineup for the side that also won comfortably their opening match of the season against Prat and playing with confidence they ended a run of eight games without a win away to Espanyol at Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque. The Valencia players adapted well to the unfamiliar artificial pitch and moved the ball around well although the first chance did fall to the home side with Marc Gual hitting a post. The Blanquinegros bounced back with Aridai going close on a couple of occasions but he was denied by keeper Ruben and also Gregori headed just over from a corner. Torres’ side gradually asserted themselves as the first half went on but Quim fired over and Aridai was again stopped by Ruben as they failed to hit the back of the net. After the break Espanyol pushed forward more looking for the win but Valencia did not buckle and continued to play their own game. Espanyol did have more of the ball but Valencia threatened on the attack with Ruben turning into a nemesis for Aridai as he blocked another chance. The panorama changed with the expulsion of Pipa for a foul on Aridai with a little over ten minutes to go and the incentive was there for the visitors to attack. On the percentage of chances, Valencia deserved more than a draw and finally Aridai got the goal he was searching for all night. Match detail: 0.
