VCF Mestalla beaten at home for first time this season by Mallorca B (0-2)

October, 15 2016 -

Mestalla unable to take chances against inspired 'keeper Parera

VCF Mestalla suffered their first home defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon, losing 0-2 against Mallorca B at the Estadio Antionio Puchades. Two quick goals at the beginning of each half proved decisive, despite the Valencia CF second team's attempts to fight back right up until the final whistle.

Curro Torres maintained the skeleton of a side who have performed exceptionally well at the start of the campaign, only making changes due to injuries (in the case of Ayala, Lato and Sito) and the suspension of striker Aridai. Gregorio moved to centre back, Nacho Vidal switched to the left wing and Alberto Gil was positioned up front.

VCF Mestalla had the early possession, but it was Mallorca B who found the net just 10 minutes into the contest. From the first corner of the game, One beat Sivera with a header to make it 0-1.

Quim and Rafa Mir both had chances to pull the game back level at the quarter-hour mark, and VCF Mestalla controlled everything but the scoreline. They used attacks down the wings and fed a series of crosses in to Gregorio in the opposition area, although without joy.

The game went into half time with Mallorca B ahead, from their only chance of the first period, and upon the restart the advantage was doubled. A set piece, a series of passes and the finish from One put the visitors 0-2 up.

The second goal was the signal for Curro Torres to make changes, and he brought on Fran Villalba and Jordi Sánchez to replace Eugeni and Alberto Gil. The attacking changes resulted in further opportunities, and Quim's shot from outside the area and Carlos Soler's free kick were both only kept out by Mallorca B goalkeeper Parera.

For the final 15 minutes, VCF Mestalla played with a three man defence and pushed everyone else upfield. Twice Parera denied Jordi Sénchez before the end, as the home team were unable to find the net. The game concluded 0-2 to Mallorca B, marking a rare home defeat for VCF Mestalla.
