VCF Mestalla battle to 1-1 draw with Atletico Levante UD

Noviembre, 20 2016 -

VCF Mestalla claimed a point in their derby with third-city neighbours Atletico Levante UD on their visit to the opposition’s Ciudad Deportiva, as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw on Segunda División B Grupo III Matchday 15. Jordi Sánchez struck a late equaliser for the Valencia CF second team in the final minutes of the game.

On a tricky playing surface, VCF Mestalla took control of the contest in the early stages. Aridai and Sito provided attacking outlets on either wing, as they overran the Levante defence.

Against the run of play, Atletico Levante UD took the lead on 34 minutes. A loose ball off a throw in was collected by Allyson, who converted his side’s only chance of the first half to make it 1-0.

Rafa Mir had a chance to get VCF Mestalla back level just before the break, but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Koke and the hosts retained their advantage going into half time.Coach Curro Torres brought on Fran Villalba for Gregori at the start of the second period, and VCF Mestalla chased an equaliser with intensity. Aridai had a close chance from a free kick, followed by frequent crosses into the box against opposition content to defend and run down the clock.

A mistimed challenge from Carlos Soler saw him sent off with 8 minutes remaining, but 10-man VCF Mestalla continued to push for a goal. Their reward came on 87 minutes, when Jordi Sánchez hit a shot inside the far post to take the scoreline to 1-1.

Despite continued intensity up until the final whistle, there were to be no further goals and the points were shared in the Valencian derby.
