VCF Mestalla take three points at home to CD Eldense November, 26 2016 - Goals from Eugeni and Aridai gave VCF Mestalla victory at home to CD Eldense on Matchday 16 of the Segunda B Grupo III season, as the Valencia CF second team ended a run of three consecutive draws. In an intense game from start to finish, the first opportunity fell to Eldense, who had shots from Samu and Armero deflected wide. VCF Mestalla would have to wait until the 26th minute for their first chance, when Fran Villalba sent an effort whistling over the crossbar. One of the clearest chances of the first half was that of Sito, who breezed past an opposition defender and cut back to go through on goal but was denied when one-on-one with goalkeeper Carlos Molina. The final minutes of the first period saw play go back and forth, until VCF Mestalla finally found the net on 43 minutes. A majestic pass inside by Aridai was latched on to by Eugeni, who smashed it into the opposite side of the goal to give his team the lead. The second half began with VCF Mestalla enjoying the better of possession and a constant barrage of shots. Ardai and Nacho Gil combined for a move that had them through on goal, before the referee’s assistant called play back for offside. Gil then sent a shot in from outside the area, which was deflected out. Eldense came close to equalising through centre forward Manu Gavilán, whose shot went just wide of VCF Mestalla goalkeeper Antonio Sivera’s right post. The attacks continued from the home side at the Antonio Puchades, however. Aridai had his free kick saved by Molina –who also produced a double save from Villalba and a punch clear from Nacho Vidal. VCF Mestalla killed the game off in the final moments, when Nacho Gil sent in a perfect ball for Aridai to slot into an empty net to secure victory. The win ends the run of consecutive draws and takes the team up to third place in the league table, just 4 points off the leaders.
