VCF Mestalla beat Lleida Esportiu 1-0 in dominant performance

December, 10 2016 -

A goal from Aridai in the 20th minute of play gave VCF Mestalla victory at the Estadio Antonio Puchades, as they beat Lleida Esportiu 1-0 in their final home game of 2016.The Valencia CF second team had a wealth of chances in the first half, and could have gone into the break with a more comprehensive advantage. Their first opportunity came on 6 minutes, when Sito’s cross was almost reached by Toni Lato with the goal at his mercy. This was followed up by Aridai shooting over the crossbar on a one-on-one with the goalkeeper –who would subsequently save from Sito’s free kick on target.

The goal came when Quim broke free of the Lleida defence, playing the ball through to Aridai. The striker took a few steps to get closer to goal, put his foot through the ball and sent it past opposition goalkeeper Campos to make it 1-0.

Lleida had a chance to equalise on 25 minutes when Turu Flores headed wide, but it was an isolated opportunity for the visitors.

Aridai almost replicated his opener when he was again fed through by the midfield, but this time his shot hit the back post with the goalkeeper beaten.

Sito forced the save of the game from Campos when he cut into the D and launched a left footed strike –tipped over the top to deny VCF Mestalla goal number two.

The second half script did not deviate from that of the first period, as the Valencia CF second team enjoyed a continuous stream of chances. Sito went one-on-one with Campos in an early chance, but it was the Lleida player who sent the effort out for a corner. The VCF Mestalla midfielder subsequently sent in a great ball for Aridai –who didn’t quite make clean enough contact to turn the ball inside the right post.

VCF Mestalla could have had an advantage in numbers before the end, when Campos came out of his area and handled the ball. The referee opted to only show a yellow card, and the subsequent free kick went off target.

The win eventually came by the slimmest of margins, but VCF Mestalla had enjoyed a host of chances and shown why they are one of the top teams in the Segunda División B Grupo III.
