VCF Mestalla begin 2017 with hard worked 1-1 draw

Enero, 08 2017 -

A Fran Navarro strike late on gave VCF Mestalla a 1-1 draw away to AE Prat in a game where they kept battling to the end and got their reward.

There were a number of new faces in the side as coach Curro Torres was forced to shuffle his squad with the absences of Lato, Carlos Soler, Rafa Mir and Sito who had been called up to the first team for the clash against Osasuna on Monday.

The blanquinegros found it difficult to settle in the Estadi Municipal Sagnier with the artificial pitch and the blustery conditions, and they went behind after 20 minutes with Poves hitting a volley past Sivera from the edge of the area.

The visitors looked to battle back and had their chances before half time with Aridai having his shot saved when one-on-one with keeper Toni, who also repelled an effort by Jordi Sánchez. They were carrying the greater danger against the more direct play of the Catalan side although Prat could have gone further ahead with Ignacio hitting the woodwork.

In the second half Mestalla pushed more although they did struggle to create clear-cut chances. Nacho Vidal did go close with a couple of strikes before the goal did eventually come. Substitute Navarro struck home from an Aridai free-kick for a deserved equaliser.

Mestalla’s next game is on Saturday against RCD Espanyol B from 5pm.
