VCF Mestalla and Atletico Saguntino play out 0-0 derby draw

Enero, 28 2017 -

VCF Mestalla drew an intense derby against Atletico Saguntino at the Antonio Puchades, in which they had chances to take the win right until the end. The result makes it 8 games since the Valencia CF second team's last defeat in the Segunda División B Grupo III.

The team were put on the back foot early on, as Antonio Sivera had to push away the first corner of the game in the opening minute. The first clear chance arrived 8 minutes later, as Saguntino hit the post.

VCF Mestalla responded by themselves attacking, and Eugeni's free kick saw them come close to breaking the deadlock. Cifu followed it up with a shot from outside the area, saved by the opposition goalkeeper.

The closest chance of the first half was that which fell to Nacho Gil, whose attempt to finish off a combination with Eugeni was ultimately unsuccessful.

Following a free kick for Saguntino's Gimeno which went over the crossbar, the game headed into half time with the score at 0-0.

The second half got underway with two chances for Nacho Gil, and Aridai's effort over the crossbar continued VCF Mestalla's dominance. The response from Saguntino saw Javi Jimenez make an excellent intervention to cut off a pacy attack.

Whilst Nacho Gil provided a constant threat, and Marc Ferris also produced a save from the Saguntino goalkeeper, it was Nacho Vidal who came closest to putting VCF Mestalla ahead. The attacker found space for a shot from outside the box, which the opposition stopper only just kept out.

With neither side able to score, the points were shared in the Saturday fixture and VCF Mestalla's unbeaten run was extended.
