VCF Mestalla extend unbeaten run to 8 with win against Villarreal B

Febrero, 11 2017 -

VCF Mestalla claimed a 3-2 win against Villareal B at the Estadio Antonio Puchades on Matchday 25 of the Segunda División B Grupo III season, thanks to a goal from Nacho Vidal and a brace from Rafa Mir. The Valencia CF second team have only lost once at home this term.

The first clear chance of the game was provided by the visiting side, who pressed high up the pitch to start the encounter. Carlos Martínez' shot from outside the area produced a great save from VCF Mestalla goalkeeper Antonio Sivera. In response, Zotko came close to VCF Mestalla's opening chance, very nearly meeting a corner with his head.

Nacho Vidal broke the deadlock on 26 minutes, converting a great cross from Eugeni at the left post. VCF Mestalla had been dominating possession before the strike to make it 1-0.

Villarreal B came back with a shot across the face of goal from Leo Suárez, which Sivera again matched with a fine parry. It would be the final opportunity of note in the first half, which ended with VCF Mestalla in front.

The second half began with Villarreal upping the intensity, and they nearly found an equaliser through a Pau header. They followed that up with another chance for Martínez, who again could find no way past Sivera in the VCF goal.

Rafa Mir could have made the scoreline more comfortable for VCF Mestalla on 67 minutes, as he was played through by Sito and hit his shot just over the crossbar on a promising counterattack. Although he missed on that occasion, only a minute later Eugeni found him with a corner that he converted to double the lead.

Villarreal B kept looking for a way back into the game, and were given hope by Carlos Lopez' powerful strike out of the reach of Sivera on 78 minutes to make it 2-1.

However, VCF Mestalla hit back immediately, and a weaving solo move by Rafa Mir resulted in the striker getting his second goal of the night. A frenetic spell followed, in which Villarreal's Carlos Lopez completed a brace of his own, but there was no denying Curro Torres' side the three points at the Estadio Antonio Puchades.

The victory keeps them third in the table, and extends their unbeaten run to 8 games.
