VCF Mestalla provide thorough victory against Atletico Baleares (5-0)

February, 25 2017 -

VCF Mestalla returned to winning ways at the Estadio Antonio Puchades with a comprehensive 5-0 win against Atletico Baleares. The three strikers -Rafa Mir, Aridai and Jordi- all got their names on the scoresheet, along with fullback Nacho Vidal, as the Valencia CF second team continued in third place in the Segunda División B Grupo III table.

The first chance for the home side came just 9 minutes in, as Jordi controlled the ball magnificently, setting up Aridai for an effort that slammed into an opposition defender. The opening goal arrived in the 18th minute, through a combination in the midfield between Rafa Mir and Jordi; Mir left the defence behind, went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and pulled a shot into the far corner.

The superiority on the scoresheet was added to by an advantage in numbers, as Atletico Baleares' Fullana was sent off on 25 minutes for a second yellow card.

Just before halftime, Aridai made it 2-0 when he latched onto a great pass from Eugeni into space. He hit his shot on the run to double the lead for VCF Mestalla, heading into the break.

In the second half, VCF Mestalla started strong, looking to kill off the game. The clearest chance early on was that of Aridai, who brought down a Quim Araujo cross and smashed his shot against the crossbar. Just a minute later, Eugeni put a strike of his own over the top, and would do so again in the 57th minute off another dangerous Quim Araujo ball into the box.

The ever-active Quim Araujo's work would bear fruit on 69 minutes, when VCF Mestalla got their third goal of the afternoon. Jordi finished off a move started by the pacy midfielder to take the score to 3-0.

Goal number four followed on the very next move, with a pass inside from Eugeni met by Jordi to provide an intelligent finish and complete his brace.

The final goal of the game arrived 7 minutes from time, when VCF Mestalla hit on the counter and the ball found its way to Nacho Vidal -whose powerful shot inside the left post rounded off a 5-0 triumph. VCF Mestalla extend their unbeaten home run to 10 games, and increase their points total to 48 in third place.
