VCF Mestalla return from Mallorca B game empty handed

Marzo, 05 2017 -

An 85th minute goal from Mallorca B’s Caye meant VCF Mestalla fell to a 1-0 loss in the Balearics, on Matchday 28 of the Segunda División B Grupo III season.

The Valencia CF second team came into the game keen to avenge a loss earlier this season at the Antonio Puchades, but were unable to respond after the late strike from the home side.

The early going was dominated by VCF Mestalla, and first Eugeni and then Nacho Vidal had chances saved by Mallorca B goalkeeper Valens.

Mallorca B’s first opportunity on goal was a one-on-one between Caye and Sivera, which the goalkeeper was able to keep out with aplomb.

Sivera was again called into action to block a Cedric shot off a corner, whilst Rafa Mir’s long shot caused problems for Valens. However, the first half ended 0-0.

Upon the restart, Mallorca put players behind the ball and VCF Mestalla managed to break through the defence on several occasions. Aridai had a go from outside the area –saved by Valens.

The home team’s substitutions, bringing on Baba and James, added more of an attacking presence.

The latter drew a foul from Nacho Vidal inside the box shortly after coming on, but Cortés sent the resulting penalty against the post.

With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Caye struck late. After Zotko failed to get the ball away, the Frenchman snuck in and chipped the ball over Sivera.

An Aridai red card added to VCF Mestalla’s woes, and although Cifu had a chance in the closing stages, his shot hit the crossbar and the team sank to a 1-0 defeat in the Balearics.
