VCF Mestalla back to winning ways at the Antonio Puchades fortress (2-1)

Jordi Sánchez unstoppable strike and  last gasp effort from Nacho Gil earn VCF Mestalla all three points in tight contest

 

Both sides started off looking lively. VCF Mestalla played their typical possession game right from the start stringing passes together  as they pushed  Cornellà on the back foot. They enjoyed  they first shot on target in the early stages of the first half. Cornellà showed their defensive solidity blocking all VCF Mestalla chances.

The first dangerous chance for Curro Torres ‘side  came on 29 minutes,through a Nacho Gil individual play who scampered down the left flank and fired off a shot that whistled over the bar. A minute later, Rafa Mir came close to scoring the opener.

The best chance of the first half came through a great combination between Lato and Mir who shook off the defenders to set up Nacho Gil who could not get to the end of it.

A much buoyed VCF Mestalla came out in the second half and on 47 minutes, Rafa Mir came  close to scoring the opening goal for VCF Mestalla following a great Jordi cross. And a minute later, a sparkling combination between Mir and Jordi paid dividends as he drilled home on 50 minutes, to give VCF Mestalla the breakthrough (1-0).

Cornellà showed their stalls on the attack following VCF Mestalla’s lead, trying to open up the defence in search of an equalising goal. Cornellà caught VCF Mestalla on the counter-attack through Ahmed,who tore away down the left wing to beat Sivera on 76 minutes,to get Cornellà back on level terms(1-1).

In the closing stages of the game, Nacho Gil, ran around Marcos and finished it off in style,following a delightful VCF Mestalla move to take all three points(2-1).

VCF Mestalla extend their unbeaten home streak to nine games. VCF Mestalla are the strongest  home side with only one loss so far  this season.They secure third place for 6th consecutive game.VCF Mestalla lie third on 51 points- and stay in the upper echelons of the table.
