VCF Mestalla’s 1-1 draw puts play-off on hold April, 30 2017 - VCF Mestalla did not get the victory over FC Badalona, who come away with a point from Mestalla in a game where VCF Mestalla deserved much more. The most controversial action in the game would come minutes later following a corner kick for VCF Mestalla, as it appeared to be a hint of hand-ball from the Badalona backline. On the 30-minute-mark VCF Mestalla had their first shot on goal that went wide. There was a constant link-up play between Jordi and Rafa Mir just outside the area and their solid defensive display was brilliant as Badalona did not have a single shot on goal in the first half. On 43 minutes, a promising VCF Mestalla wave of attack was finished off by Nacho Gil who hit a curling left-footed unstoppable pearler to give VCF Mestalla the lead. VCF Mestalla were edging ahead at the break. A much buoyed Badalona came out in the second half showing their stalls in attack searching for the equaliser. Their very first chance in the game through Oliva who was brilliantly saved by Sivera who nimbly rushed off his line to deny the equaliser the aforementioned Sivera was at the heart of the next move as he stuck out a terrific hand with 50 minutes on the clock. 6 minutes later, Oliva levelled it up with a left-footed shot out of Sivera’s reach. Following the equaliser VCF Mestalla tried to get back in front with a string of attacks while playing their possession football. A magnificent teamwork saw two promising chances in quick succession from Rafa Mir with Sito as spearhead provider from the flank. In the closing minutes Mestalla turned into a cauldron a twelfth man in search of a last-minute match winning goal, but the game finished all square at 1-1 with VCF Mestalla adding a point to their tally, 61 points.
