VCF Mestalla fight back to win 3-1 against Hospitalet in the final game ahead of the promotion play-offs

May, 14 2017 -

VCF Mestalla found themselves trailing 0-1 two minutes into the first half through Dani Fernadez who hit a quick-fire opener following a string of passes from the away side. VCF Mestalla had an immediate response through Sito but Dani Mayo produced a save. On 18 minutes, Ferri produced a brilliant stop sticking a leg out, and as the game went on VCF Mestalla were having more and possession while the opposition were pressing high up the pitch. On the 30-minute mark, Hospitalet were reduced to ten men as Porcar was sent off for a second booking. A minute later, Jordi’s header was pushed away by the keeper.  Jordi Sánchez hit an unstoppable strike right on the stroke of half-time getting VCF Mestalla back on level terms.

In the second half, VCF Mestalla kept on dictating the tempo, stamping their authority on the game and searching for a second goal. On 62 minutes, Jordi looked to get on the end of a teasing Alberto Gil cross but he couldn’t quite reach it.

With 81 minutes on the clock, Gregorio Serra placed a delightful shot into the top corner giving VCF Mestalla the lead and sending celebrations into overdrive as the entire squad sprung off the bench for joy, knowing they had made sure of third place. On the stroke of full-time Eugeni netted the third, drilling home in style. The bad news was that Cifu had to be replaced after being on the receiving end of a robust challenge.

Curro Torres’ side's unbeaten run continues; they’ve now gone seven games without losing, but even more importantly, they clinched the third place ahead of the promotion play-offs to finish off their regular season on a high note.
