In-form VCF Femenino beat Athletic Club 3-1

Octubre, 16 2016 -

VCF Femenino continued their impeccable start to the Iberdrola Primera División Femenina RFEF campaign with a 3-1 victory over Athletic Club at the Ciudad Deportiva. An own goal in the opening minutes of the game, followed by strikes from Zornoza and Carol, gave the Valencia CF women's team the win against the defending champions and kept them unbeaten in the league so far this term.

The Sunday game began with a cross-shot from Zornoza that Mari Paz nearly latched onto, and the chance set the town for the first half. Such was the pressure that Athletic Club were forced into a costly error, as Ainhoa Vicente put a Carol cross from the left into her own net.

VCF Femenino got the second goal from one of their own players, when Zornoza pounced on a poor clearance and fired off a left-footed drive from outside the area. 2-0 up with 18 minutes played, Valencia CF were in the driving seat against their highly rated opponents and playing some of their best football of the season.

Athletic Club pulled a goal back through Yulema Corres, who sent in an acrobatic effort at the back post to get the Basque side back in touching distance, and the game went into half time with VCF leading by a single goal -the very first conceded by Valencia CF in the current campaign.

The second half was a more evenly balanced affair, and Athletic enjoyed a double chance five minutes in from Yulema. VCF Femenino goalkeeper Endler sent away the final attempt with her left hand.

Still looking to extend their lead, VCF Femenino hit the crossbar through Carol on 75 minutes and, four minutes later, made the scoreline more comfortable; Débora G worked her way inside from the right wing, Zornoza had her shot saved by Ainhoa, and Carol smashed the ball home to take the score to 3-1.

VCF Femenino held out despite late crosses into the box from Athletic Club, and claimed another three points in one of the toughest fixtures on the league calendar.
