VCF Femenino take point against Atletico Madrid Feminás and remain unbeaten

November, 12 2016 -

VCF Femenino took a point against tough opposition on Matchday 10 of the Iberdrola Primera División Femenina RFEF, drawing 1-1 at home with Atletico Madrid Feminás. Amanda Sampedro put the visitors ahead in the 32nd minute, with Mari Paz equalising early on in the second half.

Typically intense, the VCF women's team pressed high in the early stages of the match, although their opponents stuck to their style of playing a passing game. That led to an opening fifteen minutes in which neither side were able to impose their will on the contest.

Atletico Madrid Feminás found the opening goal during a period of play in which they had been moving the ball around more comfortably. On 32 minutes, Amanda Sampedro shot from outside the area and put her strike out of the reach of Valencia CF goalkeeper Endler.

The game went into half time with the away team 0-1 up, and with VCF Femenino having conceded only their second goal of the season.

The second half saw the opportunities increase for Valencia CF, and Szymanowski was one of the first to test opposition stopper Lola Gallardo. The persistence paid off in the 51st minute, when the prolific Mari Paz headed in from within the six-yard box. In the run-up to the goal, Lola Gallardo had made a save and Paula Nicart had sent a header against the crossbar. VCF Femenino were back on terms with plenty of time in which to search for a winner.

Mari Paz tried her luck with another header -this time from a Claudia Zornoza cross- in the 74th minute, although it was straight at the goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Priscilla nearly made it 1-2 to Atletico Madrid with a shot that hit the post.

In the end, the points were shared at the Ciudad Deportiva and VCF Femenino continued their unbeaten run in the 2016/17 campaign. Next up for the team is a derby against Levante on Sunday, November 20th.
