VCF Femenino take point against league leaders FC Barcelona (1-1)

Diciembre, 07 2016 -

VCF Femenino took a deserved point away to league leaders FC Barcelona in a midweek fixture in the Iberdrola Primera División Femenina RFEF, as a Mari Paz equaliser saw them draw 1-1.

FC Barcelona went ahead early in the contest thanks to Andressa Alves’ goal on 3 minutes. She got on the end of a cross from Marta Torrejón on the right flank to beat Esther Sullastres at the left post.

Stunned by the opening goal, the Valencia CF women’s team endured a difficult 20-minute spell. Alves had another chance to score when she swung a ball onto the crossbar, as well as Vicky putting the defence in danger shortly after.

The attacks from VCF Femenino came predominantly from crosses into the box and Débora cutting in from the wing, and they could have equalised before half time; Carol had a header just off target, and Estefania Banini fired off a close shot from the edge of the area, without success.

The first half came to a close with FC Barcelona 1-0 in front.

In the second period VCF Femenino increased their chances considerably. Banini had a shot across the face of goal, and Paula Nicart tested opposition goalkeeper Sandra Paños from a set piece. Barcelona responded by pressing higher and recovering their possession play.

Sullastres made a fantastic save from Vicky on 65 minutes which kept the game delicately poised, before 10 minutes later VCF got their equaliser; Zornoza found Mari Paz with a cross, and the number 10 nodded the ball in off the post.

Another save from Sullastres to deny Vicky, and an 89th minute miss from Zornoza meant the honours were even in the league encounter, with VCF Femenino again putting in a solid showing.
