Goalless draw for VCF Femenino adds point to tally for the season

January, 28 2017 -

The blanquinegras are fourth with 34 points

VCF Femenino shared the spoils with RCD Espanyol in their Matchday 17 game on Saturday morning. The 0-0 home draw keeps the Valencia CF women’s team fourth in the Iberdrola Primera División Femenina RFEF, with 34 points to their name and still unbeaten at the Estadio Antonio Puchades.

The side coached by Cristian Toro applied their habitual early pressure to make life uncomfortable for the visitors. Their possession was dominant and only a lack of precision in the final third of the pitch prevented VCF Femenino from enjoying clear chances in front of goal.

The pace settled down after the quarter-hour mark, and Espanyol began to get back into the game. For VCF Femenino, the attacking outlets were Carol and Joyce on the left wing, and Débora G. on the right, although their crosses went unmet and the first half concluded goalless.

The second period got underway with a double chance for captain Ivana. Cristian Toro then made a series of changes to freshen up the team:: Banini replaced M. Peiró and Szymanowski came on for Medina.

VCF Femenino attacked down the wings, off free kicks and corners, but their shots were limited to efforts from outside the box –such as that of Szymanowski on 77 minutes, which went just wide of the post.

It was the woodwork itself that would keep out the best chance of the game, when Carol smashed a shot against the left stick with less than 10 minutes to go. She would come close again 4 minutes later with a header, whilst Zornoza and Yanara also had opportunities sent away by the defence in the closing stages.

With neither side able to break the deadlock, the game concluded 0-0 at the Antonio Puchades.
