2-0 win over Sporting Club de Huelva keeps VCF Femenino third

Febrero, 19 2017 -

Goals in either half from Débora G. and Mari Paz gave VCF Femenino  2-0 victory at the Antonio Puchades on Matchday 19 of the Iberdrola Primera División Femenina RFEF, as they brushed aside Sporting Club de Huelva and kept their spot in third place in the table.

A cagey opening to the game saw VCF Femenino looking for possession and their opponents waiting for a counterattack, and it was Sporting who had the first close attempt on goal. Laura Rus drove a left footed shot from inside the area on 13 minutes, leading to Endler making a comfortable save.

Halfway through the first half, the Valencia CF women’s team found broke the deadlock. The goal came from Débora G. –her first strike in the league- as she took advantage of a corner poorly cleared by the opposition defence. When Ivana’s first attempt was blocked, Débora G. followed up to put the ball into the net on 22 minutes.

Gaitan, Banini and Zornoza ran the play for VCF Femenino as they searched for a second goal, but the first half ended with their side 1-0 up. Sporting lost Laura Rus to injury before the break, and she was replaced by Jenie for the second period.

Another injury and substitution ushered in the second half, as M. Peiró from VCF Femenino was taken off and replaced by Aedo. Meanwhile, the dynamic of the game continued the script of the first half: Valencia CF looked for possession, and their opponents to run a counterattack.

Banini came close to making it 2-0 when she danced past three defenders on 62 minutes, but had her shot saved by goalkeeper Sara Serrat.

Szymanowski was brought on in place of Carol soon after, and she nearly scored in the 67th minute to make an immediate impact. Another great run from Banini had played her through, but her shot went just wide of the right post.

Sporting threatened an equaliser when Jenie sent a free kick over the crossbar, and Ivana responded with a close set piece of her own, 5 minutes later.

However, it was Mari Paz who sealed the win for VCF Femenino, with a magnificent hit from outside the area, 10 minutes from time. There was no response, and the team took another victory at the Antonio Puchades.
