VCFF stand tall with a slim home defeat against league leaders (0-1)

Mayo, 06 2017 -

The Antonio Puchades stadium, saw Valencia CF Femenino take on FC Barcelona, current leaders of la Liga Iberdrola, in one of the toughest games of the season. The game pitted the league leaders against the third place team on Matchday 28 of the Iberdrola Primera División Femenina RFEF.

The game saw a cagey start in the opening minutes by both sides due to the blustery conditions. On 12 minutes, Debora Garcia swung in a teasing ball into the box from the right hand side that was cleared away by the FCB Femení backline. Two mnutes later VCFF enjoyed another dangerous chance blocked away by the opposition defence.

On 27 minutes,Claudia Zornoza enjoyed the most promising chance of the first half crashing a powerful shot into the crossbar from the edge of the area.

On 34 minutes, the aforementioned player whipped in a goal-bound in-swinging cross that went over across the roof of the net.The first half finished goalless with nothing to separate the sides and all to play for in the second half.

The game sparked into live in the second half. The first promising chance fell to Paula Nicart with only  three minutes inside the second  half,Paula Nicart forced Paños into a save tipping Paula’s header over the bar. Eleven minutes later, Marta Unzué took full advantage of the blustery conditions from a corner kick to break the deadlock. She stuck a leg out guiding the ball goal-wards.

VCFF tried to get back on level terms from crosses and set plays but the final whistle was blown and VCFF's outstanding unbeaten run came to an end.
