Tribute was paid to two celebrated Valencianistas before the LaLiga match against Granada CF. Paco Sendra and Jorge Iranzo, two men with a lifelong association with the club who passed away recently, were given a final send-off at Mestalla.
The stadium fell silent in respect for the two, and relatives of both Sendra –a Valencia player for 11 seasons- and Iranzo –a dedicated fan who accompanied the team almost without exception, home and away, for over 40 years- were present in the VIP box on the club’s invitation.
Valencia CF directors Kim Koh and Juan Sol presented Sendra’s family with a commemorative shirt in recognition of his time at the club, and in return were given an historic document dating back to 1960 by his relatives. A letter, originally sent to Sendra in his role as captain by Valencia CF, it contains a message of congratulations: “For your standout performance in recent times, in which your improvement in play and praiseworthy sincerity have been evident with every passing game.”
The document, which also includes a reminder of the responsibilities of a captain at Valencia Club de Fútbol, is an historic part of the club’s heritage.
Sendra’s family also thanked Valencia CF for the attendance of club representatives at the funeral ceremony earlier this week.
