Forum Algirós pays homage to Pep Claramunt for the 50th anniversary of his official VCF debut

On September 11th, 1966, Pep Claramunt officially debuted for Valencia CF in a league match against Deportivo La Coruña at Riazor. Valencia CF won the game 0-1, through a goal from Waldo. To mark 50 years since that game, the VCF Foundation paid homage to the club legend at the 4th edition of the Fórum Algirós.
The event, held at the Complejo Deportivo Cultural La Petxina, was attended by Claramunt himself, as he shared a roundtable with former players Abelardo and Sergio Manzanera, as well as journalists and moderators Alfredo Relaño and Paco Lloret.

Pep Claramunt was only 20 years old when he debuted. He would go on to win the Copa del Rey in 1967 and LaLiga in 1970/71. He was also the first Valencian captain of the Spanish national team, who he represented on 23 occasions. Before leaving the club after the 1977/78 campaign, he played alongside the likes of Roberto Gil, Miguel Angel Adorno, Rubén Valdez and Vicent Cuxart, among others.

The Forum was a heartfelt tribute to Claramunt, with the participation of several representatives of Valencia CF, such as sporting director Jesús García Pitarch, director of operations Luis Cervera, and ambassadors Juan Cruz Sol and Ricardo Arias.
Reprsenting the VCF Foundation were patrons Salvador Martínez and Salvador Belda, director Pablo Mantilla and doctor José Luis Zaragosí; Fernando Giner (VCF Footballers Association), Blas Madrigal, (Agrupació de Penyes), and Vicente Vallés (Small Shareholders Association) also attended, as well as former president Jaume Ortí, Luis Casanova, Pepe Vaello and Merchina Peris. Likewise, Puçol sports councillor Xavier Alcàcer and members of the Penya Valencianista of the town also came out to pay tribute.

The Algirós Forum is an initiative by the VCF Foundation to bring the history of the club to all Valencianistas. The first, held at the Centro Cultural Bancaja in February 2016, was "Vintage Connection: Kempes", with the participation of Kempes, Arias and Felman; The second, “Bronco y copero. 75 años de la primera Copa,” was held in May at MuVIM, whilst the third Forum Algirós, under the title "A 90 minuts de la gloria", was organized in Nuevo Centro in October, with the attendance of Roberto Gil, Juan Cruz Sol and Miguel Tendillo.
