Valencia CF bow out of cup away to Celta January, 12 2017 - Valencia CF bowed out of the Copa del Rey after they were unable to turnaround the tie against Celta Vigo in the second leg and went down 2-1 in Balaidos. Vinicius Araújo quickly hit the equaliser midway through the second half after Giuseppe Rossi had given the home side the lead. The 4-1 defeat at home was proving too much of a hill to overcome and then in injury time a Pione Sisto free-kick sent them to defeat. Voro made various changes to his side and giving several youth players a run out for a game where the blanquinegros faced a tricky task to turnaround their defeat at Mestalla. Vinicius Araújo was one of the players brought in and he was inches away from giving Valencia the perfect start as he got in front of his defender and deflected a Carlos Soler cross, that forced keeper Sergio to back pedal and tip over for a corner. Valencia had a lot of earlier possession with youth product Toni Lato getting forward from left back and Bakkali also a threat down that wing but gradually Celta came more into the game as Voro’s side lost their grip in midfield. Señé steered a header in the centre of the penalty area over and while Bakkali had a dangerous curling effort that went narrowly wide, it was the home side that was posing more of a threat in the run up to half time. Sisto had a couple of efforts saved by Jaume while Rossi fired over and he forced the Valencia shot-stopper to get down and turn away another shot from close range. After the break Álvaro Medrán went close to putting Valencia in front with a free header from a Joao Cancelo cross that looped over the crossbar and the visitors generally asserted themselves more. Dani Parejo was brought on at half time by Voro to try and give Valencia more control in midfield and his presence helped but still it was Celta that took the lead by Rossi with a right foot shot into the corner. Vinicius replied with a strike into the corner after Medrán intercepted a clearance from Sergi Gómez and slipped the ball to him on the edge of the area. The rhythm of the game increased and Rossi wriggled through a couple of challenges before poking an effort just wide but Valencia struggled to create further clear-cut chances and they conceded again in injury time.
