Zaza: "I'm here because Valencia CF are the club that wanted me the most"

New Valencia CF signing Simone Zaza was officially presented at the Ciudad Deportiva Media Centre on Monday, following the reaching of an agreement for him to join the club on loan with an option to buy.

Alongside the striker were Valencia CF directors Anil Murthy and Juan Cruz Sol, sporting director José Ramón Alesanco, member of the Technical Secretariat Vicente Rodríguez and members of the Agrupació de Penyes and Small Shareholders Association.

“I’m very happy to be here. It wasn’t a very quickly taken decision, but I’ve finally arrived,” Zaza explained to the large media presence for his unveiling.

"I knew about Valencia CF's interest a long time ago. When I got the news that I was not going to be playing more in England (at West Ham, where he spent the first half of this season), I started negotiating with Valencia CF. I wasn’t going through a good time there, but I’m motivated to come here and play.

“I was optimistic when I left Juventus, because I wanted an experience in England as I like the football there. However, it all started out badly. I feel bad about not having shown what I could do,” he continued.

Zaza acknowledged a long-standing interest in him from Valencia CF, but had believed his move would be put in doubt by the change of coach made in the past month.

“I knew of the interest from Valencia CF and that (Cesare) Prandelli wanted me here, but when he left I thought that it was off –that I was a specific request of the coach. However, that same night I received a call from the club to say that they wanted me.”

Now that he has finally arrived, Zaza wants to start scoring goals and help the team to climb the LaLiga table.

“I want to score as many goals as possible in order to win games, but the most important thing is to start well, be calm and be focused. That way, things work out by themselves,” commented the Italian international. “I think that when a team are doing badly, every set of supporters gets angry, but I knew about the situation the team were in before I signed. I believe in myself, in my team and in the club; we’ve got lots of strong players and we can do well.”

Zaza added that "I want to play here –and not only six months, I have thought about this lot and I want to do things well. I like the city, I like the people here and I always wanted to play for Valencia CF because they were the team who wanted me the most. I want people to care about me and I want to feel valued."

With a packed fixture list in LaLiga, the forward is unlikely to have to wait long for his first chance to impress –although his participation this coming weekend against Villarreal CF is doubtful.

"I don’t know if I can play on Saturday because I have not played for a month, but physically I'm fine and I'm improving,” he told journalists.

After fielding questions in his first press conference, Simone Zaza posed with a spectacular vehicle provided by club partner Volkswagen, and held up the shirt which he will use from now until the end of the season. The Italian will wear the number 12 as he looks to add a boost to Valencia CF with his goalscoring talents.
