Triangular tournament a success for Valencia CF DI team

The two Valencia CF DI teams, run by the VCF Foundation as part of their commitment to disabled sport, took part in a triangular match this past Sunday at the Ciudad Deportiva. Also participating in the game were the two Fundación Espurna Gandía teams, and one from Mislata CD EDI.
The DI football programme aims to offer those with intellectual disabilities the chance to develop physically, psychologically and socially through sport. Valencia CF DI –a club with separate teams- was created this season.
“It’s a further step for the strategy we’ve been carrying out with the intellectually disabled,” said Pablo Mantilla, Director General of the VCF Foundation. “We started some time ago with week-long summer camps, and this is the first year that we’ve created a stable team. This is the first tournament we’ve held at the Ciudad Deportiva.”
The event, which was attended by a large number of friends and families of the players, featured an excellent atmosphere of team spirit, passion for sport and fair play.
“Besides the result, I’m very happy with the way both our teams played,” commented Valencia CF DI coach Osvaldo Márquez. “It’s a joy to see all the teams play, and share the experience –not just with their teammates, but with all of the other teams here.”
