Montoya: “I’m training at 100% ahead of Atletico Madrid game”

After a short spell on the sidelines through injury, Valencia CF fullback Martín Montoya is hoping to feature this Sunday in the big game against Atletico Madrid. The defender has been one of several players working tirelessly with the match in mind, and believes he will be available for selection.

“I’ve been working for a few days alongside Santi Mina and with the fitness coach, Jordi Sorlí. We’ve been working very well and yesterday I returned to training with the group. I’m not feeling any problems and I’m working at 100%. Now we just have to see if I make the squad,” he told VCF Radio on Friday.

With injuries to Montoya, Mina, Nani and Rodrigo, as well as suspensions for Carlos Soler and Fabian Orellana in recent games, VCF coach Voro has had to test his squad depth during a packed few weeks of LaLiga action.  “It’s been a very strange two weeks, with four games. We’ve also had players suspended and injured, as well as rotations being made,” said Montoya.

Santi Mina and I are ready, and Nani is coming back soon. Let’s see what we can do on Sunday. Valencia CF are on a good run of form, having taken 3 wins from their last 4 games". “The team are training well and we’ve been getting positive results over the last few weeks,” explained Montoya. “We have gained a lot of confidence from the games we’ve won –above all at Mestalla, where we are strong and have the support of the fans.”

Asked about his expectations for the Matchday 26 contest at the Vicente Calderón, the defender was optimistic about Valencia CF’s chances. “We have a difficult game coming up against Atletico Madrid, one of the best sides in the league. We know it’s a tough ground to visit but the team are on a good dynamic and working well. We want the 3 points, and above all we want to compete for the entire 90 minutes. If that means we win, then all the better.”
