VCF Femenino play Athletic Club in third vs. fifth showdown

VCF Femenino have an away trip on Matchday 22 of the Iberdrola Primera División Femenina RFEF season, as they face fifth-placed side Athletic Club on Sunday afternoon (kickoff 4pm).

The Valencia CF women's team come into the match in excellent form, having gone 10 games unbeaten and not conceded a goal since December. That strong record means that they start the matchday in third place with 46 points to their name, although they are focusing on going game-by-game until the end of the season.

Athletic Club are fifth in the league, 4 points behind VCF Femenino with 42. They are one of the toughest sides in the division, and present a big challenge this weekend. In the last two seasons, the Basque side have beaten VCF Femenino both home and away (1-0 and 0-2 in 2014/15, 3-2 and 1-2 in 2015/16). However, in the current campaign the Valencianistas have already taken a victory over this week's opponents, winning 3-1 at the Estadio Antonio Puchades.

Gio Carreras, VCF Femenino:

"Athletic Club are a very solid team. Above all, they stand out for their good attacking transitions. They have a lot of quality and score a lot of goals. However, this is one of those games in which every player wants to play. Athletic are special opponents because of their history, and they are also battling with us to finish as high up as possible in the standings. We certainly won't be lacking motivation!

"We are very strong defensively and teams create few chances against us. I think that we've found a good balance, and that is shown in the statistics. I think that the team are in good form, and I hope to be able to contribute as the games go by to make the team even better, if possible."
