Sivera: "Spain Under-21s call-up was unexpected but incredible"

VCF Mestalla goalkeeper Antonio Sivera received a late call-up to the Spain Under-21s squad last night, as a result of Athletic Club stopper Kepa being promoted to the first team. Following the good news, Sivera spoke to VCF Radio on Wednesday to give his thoughts on the exciting development.

"I'm very happy. It's a step forward in my career and I'm very pleased about the opportunity. I'm facing it with the utmost excitement," he told the official Valencia CF radio station.

"I wasn't expecting it at all. I found out last night that I was going to be in the squad, and it was incredible. It was unexpected news, but very good news," he added, acknowledging that the great campaign VCF Mestalla are having in Segunda B Grupo III played a big part in his call-up.

"Everything helps, and the good season that the team are having has helped me get here."

The Spain Under-21s side play Denmark on Thursday, but are also in action on Saturday against Macedonia. Should Sivera remain in the squad, he would be unable to play in the big game against FC Barcelona B for VCF Mestalla at the weekend.

"I still don't know how things are going to turn out, but I'm sure that Kepa will be part of the senior squad tomorrow for the first friendly. After that, we'll see. I'm not sure how its going to work, but in theory I'm going to miss the game. The team have my full support and confidence that they are going to have a great game and compete at the highest level," he explained.
