Voro:"We need to compete in this game"

Valencia CF coach Salvador González “Voro” spoke on Friday at midday at the Training Ground Media Centre, to preview Saturday’s 4:15pm kick-off against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu on Matchday 35 of the LaLiga season.

Voro began by explaining that Enzo Pérez and Mario Suárez were out of the Matchday squad due to injury, but that Rodrigo and Gayà were ready to play and would be travelling to Madrid.

“We’re a bit short in the defensive midfield area. But we’ll our best to fill that important area of the pitch, the most important thing is that the players who go out onto the pitch perform as well as possible.”

The coach said that “We may not need points in terms of the table, but we do need to compete and perform well. Playing at the Bernabéu is a motivation for any player.”

When asked about his strategy for the game, Voro responded that “It’s hard to have a lot of possession when you’re playing away at Madrid.  We need to take advantage of the spaces we can find and be solid at the back. We don’t want to be overly defensive, but you have to be aware that Madrid are good on the counter-attack and make sure you don’t leave yourself open to that.”

He was also keen to point out that “against Madrid the starting IX alone won’t win the game. We need the substitutes who come on during the game to also do their bit for the team”

Voro explained that for him the most important thing was for “every player to give their all on the pitch”.
