The team will play their first friendly in the North American country against one of the USA’s most traditional clubs
Valencia CF will visit Canada this summer for the first time in their history, where they’ll face the New York Cosmos, heirs of the original franchise which is one of the most famous and traditional in American soccer, on the 22nd of July (4pm local time, 12am Spanish time). The match will be played on a newly built stage, the Mosaic Stadium, in Regina (Saskatchewan), as was announced this Tuesday at a press conference in the city. NY Cosmos director of operations underlined his satisfaction about “the challenge of playing against a world renowned club like Valencia CF”. The Mayor of Regina, Michael Fougere, said that the event this July between Valencia CF and NY Cosmos “confirms that our new and iconic stadium is a world class arena”.
The Valencia CF CEO, Mateu Alemany, told valenciacf.com that the “team’s first visit to Canada, where interest in football is growing, against historic opposition like the New York Cosmos, is an important event for Valencia CF to take part in, in a strategically important market like North America.”
The innovative Mosaic Stadium in Regina (Canada) has a 40,000 capacity, LED lighting system and latest generation artificial turf pitch and, after the match between Valencia CF and NY Cosmos, will host its first official Canadian league (CFL) match on the 1st of July, between the Roughriders and the Blue Bombers.
