Unstoppable left-footer from Gayà gives VCF the win

With just over a quarter of an hour left on the clock, the match was still there for the taking for both sides. Valencia CF were pressing high when  RCD Espanyol had possession and Dani Parejo managed to win the ball in a dangerous position. The midfielder from Coslada slid a lovely through-ball into the VCF Academy graduate, Gayà, who used a directional control to beat his marker and then drive his shot into the bottom corner; a shot which Diego López had no chance of stopping. It was Gayà’s first goal of the season.

“The team wanted to finish off with a good feeling, we beat Osasuna and we came here to win because Valencia are a team who have to go for the win.

It’s been a bad season but it’s good to win the last games of the season so that we can carry the good feeling into the next season.

We knew that Espanyol would come out of the blocks quickly. We had a good period after that, then they got hold of the ball again…In the second half we worked hard and we’re happy to have taken the three points.

Against Villarreal we want the home win to give our fans something to cheer about and finish off the season with three wins on the spin.”
