Garay: "Marcelino is going to be very good for VCF"

Valencia CF’s Argentine centre-back, Ezequiel Garay, spoke to VCFradio on Wednesday to give his views on the season, tell us about the team’s preparations for the last LaLiga game of the season, and also look forward to next season.

Sunday’s Match against Villarreal

“Voro deserves to be paid homage to on Sunday. He’s done an important job; he took charge of the team when we were in a really tough situation and he helped us get out of trouble. He should be thanked for what he’s done as a coach, and also for what he’s like as a person. We want to win, to give the fans something to cheer about, and we also want to win for Voro.”

The 16/17 Season

“It was a season of a lot of ups and downs. It’s a shame that we weren’t able to achieve our aim, which was to be at the top end of the table fighting for a European spot. On a personal level I’m happy to be here at Valencia CF, my family are really happy living here in this city, and I hope to be able to dedicate more goals to them at Mestalla.”

His time under Marcelino at Real Racing Club de Santander

“We were a humble team that could give any team a run for their money. We were a well-balanced team, in defence and attack, and we were very strong in midfield. We were also a very competitive team, and we achieved a lot. We worked really hard on defence in training, not just on defending but also on how to play out from the back and begin moves. We were really well drilled and put what we did on the training pitch into practice on matchday.”

What Marcelino will bring to Valencia CF

“He’s going to be very good for Valencia CF, because we want to get back to the top where this Club belongs. I think he’ll do a great job because he’s a great coach, and the football he gets his teams playing is really good.”
