VCF Mestalla are looking for a good result against Celta B to set up the home leg at Mestalla

The play-offs for promotion to la Liga 1|2|3 kick off on Sunday at 12am in Vigo

The first round of Segunda B’s second phase is about to begin. VCF Mestalla are ready for the challenge they will face in the play-offs for promotion to la Liga 1|2|3, after a great regular season which saw them finish third in the table. Curro Torres’ side play at the Barreiro stadium in Vigo on Sunday at 12pm in the first leg of their tie against Celta B, and they’ll be looking to set themselves up for the home leg at Mestalla with a good away result.

It’s the first of six “cup finals” for VCF Mestalla if they want to get up to Spanish football’s second tier. They go into the game with only one player out injured, Aridai Cabrera, and no suspensions. The squad are aware of the importance of getting a positive result away from home and know they’ll have to be on top form to make it happen.

Celta B, who were third top goalscorers across all the Segunda B groups and boast the division’s leading scorer, Borja Iglesias (32 goals), will host a VCF Mestalla side who are characterised by consistency, hard work and competitiveness. The blanquinegros play to their strengths, and have shown that they are capable of adapting to any situation thrown in their path. It has also been very noticeable that the squad is made up of players who are extremely motivated to keep on competing deep into the post-season.

The first leg in Vigo will be crucial for Curro Torres’ lads, who know they need to put themselves in a good position for the home leg at Mestalla. Alejandro Menéndez’ team are strong at home, having only lost twice there all season, against Cultural Leonesa and Boiro. On the other hand, VCF Mestalla have managed to take points from 14 of their 19 away games this season, testament to their competitive nature when on the road. The clash is expected to be a hard-fought and tight affair between two teams with their hearts set on going up to la Liga 1|2|3.
