VCF Mestalla took a narrow lead away at Celta in a five- goal thriller which sets VCF Mestalla on course for the return leg. The game was off to a high tempo but Celta B scored the opener two minutes into the game, Juan Mera fired home from outside of the area giving Celta an early lead.Following Celta’s opener, VCF Mestalla settled into the game knocking the ball about and trying to open up the Celta defence. VCF Mestalla were growing more and more into the game. On 26 minutes, Sito burst down the left played it back into Nacho Gil who laid it back into Araujo who got VCF Mestalla back on level terms with another unstoppable strike at the other end from outside the area. Three minutes later, Natcho Gil drilled home from outside the area after a great link-up play and from left wing Qim Araujo who played it back Into Nacho Gil who gave VCF the lead. Celta refused to back down and Sivera produced a magnificent stop from point-blank range to Ichan’s shot on 32 minutes. Valencia CF Mestalla came close to scoring following a corner kick through Nacho Vidal who hit it first time, but Celta keeper tipped it over. VCF Mestalla dictated the tempo and provided the chances for the remaining of the half. The same script followed after the restart with both sides trying to score an early goal. Five minutes into the second half, Borja Iglesias hit the post from a free kick just outside the area. Later on, Nacho Vildal forced the Celta keeper into a fingertip save with a swerving shot from the right. Two minutes later Robert headed the ball into his own net giving VCF Mestalla a two-goal lead away at Celta. Minutes later, Toni Lato came close to adding his name on the scoresheet charging down the left and forcing the Celta backline to turning it behind for a corner.VCF Mestalla were relentless up front with a whirlwind of unrewarded chances. On 74 minutes, in- form Sivera produced another sensational save clawing the ball over to Borja Iglesias header which was flagged up for offside.
