VCFF through to semi-finals for third consecutive year

Banni stunner and Mari Paz brace take VCFF through to the S.M Copa de la Reina semi-finals

VCFF were up against Athletic Club in Copa S.M Reina. The game took place in Matapiñoneras municipal ground on June 3rd at 12:30pm kick-off which was broadcast by BeIN Sports.
VCFF off to a strong start in the game that saw a high tempo at both ends and hot weather conditions. The first chance fell to Gio Carreras who tested Ainoa with a shot from outside the area that was comfortably claimed.

On 7 minutes, Debora García tried her luck with a lob shot that went off taget. Three minutes later, Bannini scored the opener for VCFF with a solo move down the left wing and magnificent finish, a curling stunner inside the far post. The celebrations were short lived as two minutes later, Yulema Corres cancelled out Bannin’s opener. From there the floodgates opened and VCFF pushed Athletic Bilbao on the back foot providing a lot in the way of danger.

On 19-minute mark, Claudia Zornoza rattled the upright from the edge of the box. VCFF grew into the game dictating their tempo and dominating the game. Baninni came close to scoring her second of the game with a brilliant snapshot but Ainoa was equal to it.

The first half finished deadlocked at 1-1 with all to play for in the second half.

A much spirited VCFF came out in the second half, on the front foot and looking for a goal.Ten minutes into the second half, Mari Paz Vilas headed VCFF back in front showing her goal-poaching instincts following a sweet in-swinging Gio delivery. Aforementioned Mari Paz doubled the lead for VCFF over the 1-hour mark nodding it beyond Aihnoa after an inch-perfect Carolina corner-kick.

Athletic Bilbao pushed and pressed to cut the deficit forcing Tiane into a sensational save on 77 minutes. Athletic Bilbao pushed Valencia back into their own area delivering crosses in the closing stages of the game. Erika forced Eldner into another delightful stop deep into stoppage time.
The final whistle was blown and VCFF go through to the semi-finals of S.M Copa de la Reina for third consecutive year.
