Gayà: “We’re really looking forward to the beginning of the Euros now”

VCF player José Luis Gayà is part of the Spain u21s squad that will play in the European Championships in Poland from the 16th to the 30th of June. The u21 international spoke about the first week of training at the Las Rozas training ground, where he’s preparing for the Euros with teammate Carlos Soler. He’s optimistic about the tournament and looking forward to playing his part.

“The squad are training at a good level of intensity and preparing for the nice challenge that lies ahead. We’re really looking forward to the beginning of the Euros now.

A lot of things have changed. I’ve gained in maturity, but I’m still just as excited to be here. When you first get into the team it’s really exciting, but I’m just as excited now about having a good tournament and trying to bring the title home with us.

These two weeks that we’ve got here are going to be good for us in terms of preparations. And then we’ll really get down to analysing our opponents. We’ve got plenty of time to watch video material and be given information about them, but it’s still a bit soon for that.

I’m feeling good. I’ve had a week without training but that’s the same for everyone. That’s why we have this two week training camp, to get back that spark that all players want to have, and we’re really looking forward to it now.”
