Quim Araujo, Antonio Sivera and Nacho Gil speak after the game at Mestalla

VCF Mestalla players Quim Araujo, Antonio Sivera and Nacho Gil spoke to the media in the mixed zone after the game against Albacete Balompié (0-1) in the first leg of the last round of the play-offs for promotion to LaLiga 1|2|3.

Quim Araujo: “I think the team are quite capable of turning it around. At the end of the day one goal puts us level in the tie, and the team are capable of creating chances. Then it will be a case of taking those chances. I’m sure we’ll create goalscoring opportunities, we’ll play our game.”

“We’re going to give it our all, there’s no doubt about it. We’re gutted because we always want to win every game, we always go out to meet the target we’ve set for ourselves, which is to win. However, despite feeling gutted about the result, we’re calm because we know we’re going to train hard this week and then go there looking to get the goal as early as we can.”

“It’s going to be a tough game, they’re a really good team, but the team are confident that we can turn it around. If we play our game we have a great chance of going through. We’ve shown it this season in games like the one at the Rico Pérez against Hércules, where we played our game, kept possession well, and got the 0-2 win.”

“Hopefully a lot of fans will come to support us. When we went to Murcia and saw how many people had come to cheer us on, it gave us goose bumps. We’d be so grateful if the fans could come to support us next week, it really helps the team having that support. I’d like to thank them in advance for the great support I’m sure they’re going to give us, we’ve going to give it our all so that we can enjoy it together; the dream is still alive.”

Antonio Sivera: “We’re convinced we can turn this around. We’ll go there with our sights set on winning. We know that we’re capable of it. Curro Torres told us in the dressing room that we should keep calm, that we played well, and that now we have to win at their ground. And knowing that the fans will be there supporting us will be a big help.”

Nacho Gil: “I think we started well, and had control of possession. But they got their goal and then sat back to defend it, which was obviously their game plan. I think the first penalty appeal was a penalty. The second one I lost my balance a bit, but the first was a penalty.”

“The players are ok in the dressing room. We know what we’re capable of. It’s true that it wasn’t a good result for us, but we know that if we play our game we can get the result we need and create history.”

“I was given a yellow and I’m gutted. It wasn’t a yellow card offence, it was a free kick and nothing more than that. We’re going to appeal against the booking and we’ll see what can be done.”
