Valencia CF get win against SV Werder Bremen (1-2)

Agosto, 05 2017 -

Valencia CF went into the game at the Weserstadion looking to build on the win they’d picked up in the UK, and Marcelino’s men got off to a quick start. The Blanquinegros, playing in their black with orange trim 3rd kit, were firmly in control of possession from the very beginning, moving the ball well from side to side, and pushing forward into the Werder Bremen half. The first chance came from a Dani Parejo free-kick; the opposition ‘keeper was expecting the ball to be clipped in for a header, but instead the VCF skipper tried to surprise him with a shot which missed the target by a matter of inches. The hosts responded minutes later with a shot from Kainz that was well saved by Jaume.

On the 21st minute, however, Parejo opened the scoring with a superb free-kick which curled over the wall and dipped into the bottom left corner. It was the midfielder’s first goal of the pre-season, and Valencia CF thoroughly deserved the lead.

Werder Bremen quickly picked themselves up though, and started to ask questions of the VCF defence. Augustinsonn had a snap-shot blocked, and while the home side were more active in attack, they found it difficult to create any other chances of note. Marcelino’s team were showing themselves to be well organised at the back, and they managed to see the first half out with the score still at 0-1.

After the break, Marcelino made several changes, and Werder Bremen took advantage while the substitutes got into the game. The hosts saw a lot more possession than they had seen in the first 45 mins, and the home crowd were pushing them on in their search for an equaliser, which arrived through Kruse on the 74th minute.

The goal came after Mina and Nacho Gil had both had chances to put the game to bed, but Lato came to the rescue, pouncing on a rebound that bounced into his path, and stabbing the ball home to give Valencia CF a 1-2 win at the Weserstadion.
