Valencia CF were back in action on Matchday 13 at home against the pacesetters in what was the LaLiga standout fixture, a much-anticipated showdown under the floodlights in front of the home fans.  Valencia CF were coming into this game hot on their heels from their away win against Barça’s crosstown neighbours RCD Espanyol .

The visitors started playing their possession football with Valencia CF applying early pressure on FC Barcelona trying to fight for the ball in the opening minutes.  Rodrigo tried his luck on seven minutes but was blocked away by a sliding piece of defending from Umtiti.

The game became cagey in midfield with both sides exchanging possession and making very little inroads in the game. Ezequiel Garay denied Luis Suárez in quick succession halfway through the halfway mark in the first half.

Valencia CF came out in the second half looking livelier and applying a high pressure on FC Barcelona.  The first chance in the second half fell to Zaza five minutes into the second half and Zaza dragged his shot wide from inside of the opposition area.  Seven minutes later, Guedes came close to scoring following a ball recovery from Rodrigo but Ter Stegen rushed off his line to collect it.

Rodrigo opened the scoring following a delightful move with Guedes who played into Gayà who pulled it back into Rodrigo who stabbed it home from point-blank range just over the 1-hour mark in the game.

The game opened up from there. Neto denied Messi the equalising game with a great Neto Murana with just over 15 minutes of normal time left to play. Former Valencia CF left back Jordí Alba got FC back on level terms from close range following a Messi pass.  Zaza enjoyed the final kick of the game and fired over following a collective move.
