Valencia CF pick up their second loss of the season after Santi Mina cancelled out Inui's opener

Valencia CF were back in  action away at SD Eibar on Saturday at 6.30 pm kick-off time  on Matchday 16 of the LaLiga in their final away game of the year and looking to get back to winning ways on the road.

The game saw a cagey start in the opening minutes. The home side had the first chance of the game through Charles who volleyed it over the bar following a free kick. Marcelino’s side were trying to find a foothold in the game.

Nacho Gil and Jose Gayà liked up nicely down the left flank but the close-range shot by the latter was dealt with by the opposition keeper twelve minutes into the first half. Marcelino’s side settled into the game trying to play a more direct style of football.  The rain increased and so did the tempo. Dani Parejo had a fine right effort from outside the area following Pereira’s square pass which was claimed by the keeper over the halfway mark in the first half.

The opposition tested Neto at the other end through Alejo as the game was becoming tighter due to the heavy rain which was pouring down at Ipurua which made it difficult for both sides due to the slippery surface.Santi Mina came close to opening the scoring following a sweet Rodrigo pass but he flashed his shot wide of the post. Aforementioned Rodrigo enjoyed the last action of the first half on the stroke of half with a free header but he nodded it wide.

The first half finished goalless with all to play for in the second half.

Both sides came out in the second half looking to open the scoring  but it was the home side who took an early lead in the second  half  through Inui who collected a loose ball in the area and hit a right footed shot  that clipped the inside of the post and went in.

Santi Mina cancelled out the home side close to the 1-hour mark in the game with a tap-in at the back post following a brilliant Pereira cross from the right hand side which took a nick before Mina bundled it home.

The tempo dropped a bit following Santi Mina’s goal which allowed Marcelino’s side to play spells of possession style of football at times. Both sides shuffled their packs as the game opened up with twenty minutes of normal time left to play.

The home side were back ahead much to the dismay of Marcelino’s side with a header from the inside of the box in the closing minutes of the game. There was no time for an equalising goal.

Valencia CF were beaten by Eibar in what was their final away fixture of the year. Valencia CF will host Villareal CF in the final fixture of the year looking to end the year on a high not in front of their home fans on January 23rd at 4.30 pm.
