Valencia CF were dominant but picked up a hard-fought win to consolidate themselves in the upper reaches of the table

Valencia CF were back in action on Sunday at Mestalla against Real Sociedad at a 6.30pm kick-off time on Matchday 25 of LaLiga and looking to pick up their third straight victory to stay in the upper echelons of the table.

Marcelino’s side were off to a bright start in the game by applying high pressure on the opposition. Dani Parejo had the first chance ten minutes inside the first half following a Gayà pass but Parejo headed it over the bar. Valencia CF kept on growing into the game as minutes went by. Francis Coquelin came close to scoring on 18 minutes with a powerful shot and Rodrigo could not pounce on the follow-up. The aforementioned Parejo forced the opposition keeper into a save with a free kick from outside the area halfway through the first half.

Santi Mina nodded Valencia CF in front following an inch-perfect Martín Montoya delivery; the Galician striker appeared at the back post to head it in from point-black range into the back of the net. Parejo came close to doubling Valencia CF’s lead in the closing minutes of the first half following a Real Sociedad defensive mistake but his control let him down, and the ball was turned behind for a corner kick. The referee called the first half to a halt and Valencia CF edged Real Sociedad 1-0 at the interval.

Valencia CF were pushed on the back foot by the opposition in the opening minutes of the second half. Real Sociedad controlled possession and settled into the game. Oyazabal got Real Sociedad back on level terms on 55 minutes with a left-footed shot beyond Neto. Valencia CF refused to back down and got a foothold in the second half by trying to hit them on the break and just over the 1-hour mark in the game Santi Mina grabbed a brace and his eleventh goal this season. Santi Mina’s persistence paid dividends when the Galician striker bundled it home with a right footer as the opposition keeper spilt the ball.

Real Sociedad tried to equalise again minutes later through a deflected cross but could not get on the end of it. Canales hit the post with a free kick that Neto managed to scramble it away snuffing out the danger. The scoreline remained unchanged and Valencia CF picked up their third consecutive LaLiga win thanks to a Santi Mina brace. Valencia CF will visit Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday at 7.30 pm local kick-off time.
