Valencia CF visit the Bernabéu in one of Spanish football’s classic rivalries

VCF's last win at the Bernabéu was in the 2007/08 season.

Valencia CF face Real Madrid this Sunday at 10:15pm. Real Madrid have been one of the Blanquinegros’ most frequent opponents throughout history, having played each other in domestic and European competition, as well as pre-season friendlies, in over 200 matches, a fact which reflects the size of both clubs in Spanish and European football.

The two clubs have faced each other in 164 league games; it’s a classic LaLiga rivalry. VCF have only managed to win nine times away from home, the last time was in the 2007/08 season when the Blanquinegros won 2-3 with two goals from David Villa and a late winner from Javier Arizmendi.

The last battle at the Bernabéu was on the 29th of April of this year, when VCF came close to getting at least a point after a great free kick from Dani Parejo on the 82nd minute. However, with the home crowd fearing the worst, Marcelo scored a late 2-1 winner. In that game the Valencia CF line-up was Diego Alves, Montoya, Mangala, Garay, Lato, Carlos Soler, Dani Parejo, Orellana, Nani, Munir and Santi Mina.
