This Valencia CF side likes to play in the cup too!

Who doesn’t like the Copa del Rey? There are plenty of incentives that Valencia fans have this season to go and support their team, not least the fact that games at Mestalla have had a real party atmosphere - and nobody should miss this one (21:30CET)!

Against Real Zaragoza, Marcelino can once again manage from his dugout, and he only has qualifying for the next round of this competition in his mind. Despite the fact that scoring twice at La Romareda in the first leg has taken the pressure off slightly (0-2), the aim is still to win on the night. There is no better way to build a competitive spirit within a group than by wanting to win every time that they take to the field.

Regardless of the opposition, whether it is a proper match or a friendly, the biggest clubs want to make winning a habit, and this Thursday that is what Valencia CF have to do once again. After putting together a winning run of nine consecutive games, with eight of them coming in LaLiga, a draw against FC Barcelona ended that record. This week, however, they can put that right and get back to winning ways.

In order to enjoy the famous big nights in the Copa del Rey, first you must fight to earn your place there, which is something that needs to be done on Thursday. With the utmost respect to their opposition, Valencia CF don’t want to be embarrassed by teams from lower divisions, and they must go for the win after seeing the results that Lleida and Formentera have managed to pull off this week.

Getting through to the next round isn’t the only motivation for these players, with plenty of them getting the chance to get some minutes that have previously escaped them this season. As well as making sure that those players feel important in the squad, Ferran Torres could make his first-team debut at the age of 17 after impressing in the youth sides. Marcelino has prepared for this game with the idea that he can make some changes, but his team will still have quality. Geoffrey Kondogbia is out due to suspension, with Ezequiel Garay, Jeison Murillo and Goncalo Guedes out with injury problems.
